Accessibility & Support: Bereavement Groups at Temple Kol Emeth

AgeWell Atlanta is proud to be offering bereavement support groups at Temple Kol Emeth in East Cobb through Jewish Family & Career Services of Atlanta. The groups are led by Rabbi Judith Beiner, the Chaplain at JF&CS.

These groups are for widows and widowers to find support and care with a community who understands what they are going through.

No matter where you are in the grieving process, you will find a supportive community who understands and is there for you.

AgeWell Atlanta Neighborhoods Manager, Ashley Maloy, said the groups are meant to be more geographically accessible than previous groups held at the JF&CS offices in Dunwoody. This is part of AgeWell Atlanta’s commitment to help as many aging adults and their families in Metro Atlanta as possible.

“We want to come to you where you need us,” Ashley said. “We know not everybody can make it all the way to the JF&CS offices during specific times, and that there is a need for more flexibility and different locations. So we want to support the community as best we can.”

Ashley said that contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to be a member of the synagogue where the bereavement group is taking place in order to attend.

“You don’t have to be a member of Temple Kol Emeth in order to come to the bereavement group,” she said. “We are bringing them to areas like East Cobb to try and make them more convenient for some of our AgeWell Atlanta Neighborhoods members.”

Ashley added that members of the AgeWell Atlanta Neighborhoods have gotten close with other members through group activities like going out to eat, going to museums, and seeing shows together. The Neighborhoods cover Roswell, Toco Hills, Dunwoody, East Cobb, and other areas, making them an accessible program for most seniors in Metro Atlanta looking for connection with others.

“The main goal for these bereavement groups is accessibility and support,” Ashley said. “Members of AgeWell Atlanta Neighborhoods may feel more comfortable coming to the group with friends they have made in the area, especially if it’s being held in an area closer to where they normally spend time socializing.”

The upcoming dates are July 11, 18, and 25 and August 1, 15, 22, 29. To learn more and RSVP for the group, please contact Ashley Maloy at 770.677.9499 or [email protected]
